California made me,
mostly.
I’m Stephen, a photographer, Californian born-and-raised, now based in Los Angeles County.
Before moving south, I called San Francisco and Palo Alto home. Before that: the East Bay, Santa Cruz, and other corners of the Peninsula.
I’ve spent enough time on California roads to know that “just a short drive” deserves a follow-up question.
Several lenses.
Endless perspectives.
Engineering taught me to notice how things fit together. Management taught me that good work should feel worth it and be priced fairly.
Biochemistry and healthcare taught me that living things have their own ideas. Plans are useful. So is knowing when to change them.
Photography sits comfortably in the middle. I care about the light, the composition, and the little details, while leaving room for people to be people.
People make
the place.
Friends and family keep me moving between Northern California, Los Angeles, and San Diego. Travel takes me farther afield, usually with a camera close by.
Wherever I land, I’m drawn to people, the places they make their own, and what happens when nobody’s trying too hard.
That’s what I look for with a camera. A little character. Something honest.
And you don’t need to arrive knowing what to do with your hands. Really. We’ll figure that part out together.
